Three Articles on One-Child Policy

Chinese given perks to have girls: A pilot programme in rural China is offering cash and other incentives to families who have daughters. Families with girls get free schooling and better housing.

Nation to curb population growth through reward: Unlike most other Chinese women farmers her age, 64-year-old Lian Zhengfang only has child. And because of that, Lian is rewarded by the government. From this year on, Lian will be granted 600 yuan (72.55 US dollars) in subsidies by the government each year until her death.

China Offers Perks to Stop Aborting Baby Girls: Rural families in China, where there is a traditional bias for boys, are being offered cash incentives to stop aborting baby girls and help correct a sex imbalance. Under the "Care for Girls" pilot program, girls would be exempted from paying school fees, insurance would be given to households until their daughters grow up and families with just one daughter would enjoy housing, employment, education and welfare privileges.
