Families with adopted Chinese children appreciate town's diversity: "Yi ... er ... san," chants the small band of children huddled around a several knee-high tables pushed together. Every Thursday afternoon, the 5- to 7-year-olds gather after school in an empty classroom in the Pierce School to count and learn new words in Chinese.
