I adopted a 3 month old baby in 1993. Lived in San Francisco bay area so no shortage of Chinese people. Spent a fortune and nearly went out of my mind so that child would speak Chinese. My time would have been better spent banging my head against a wall. Now she is thirteen and can't stand it if I speak Chinese to people we meet casually. In fact it's the 3rd most embarrassing thing I do. I didn't ask about the 1st 2 things. Now that we are adolescent mode I get that but as a little girl why so much resistance? And will I ever get over this.??
