A reflective Karen will think of the birth mother of her Chinese godsend and offer her heartfelt thanks. There will also be enormous empathy as well for a mother's loss on this, Karen's first Mother's Day.
Hollis Meyer: Hollis Meyer, a police officer since she was 20, was married, wanted children but couldn't conceive. Her husband wanted to retire and move to Colorado. She wanted to adopt; he didn't. They divorced -- and Meyer proceeded to adopt from China. "It was a hard decision, but I wanted a family," she says. Her mother moved in to help.
